New Call for Papers:

‘Political Religions’ in the ancient Mediterranean (6th c. BC – 3rd c. AD)

Ioannina, Greece, July 7-8, 2014

The past 10 years have seen an increasing number of studies in Ancient History and the History of Religions apply the concept of ‘political religion’ (that is, the divine world as a support to a political order) to societies around the Ancient Mediterranean. The Ancient History Bulletin and the University of Ioannina propose an interdisciplinary conference to address the ways in which ‘political religion’ is pertinent to the historical analysis of the ancient societies. Papers of ca. 20 minutes in English will be considered. Please submit 300 word abstracts by March 10 to Tim Howe (howe@stolaf.edu) or to Elias Koulakiotis (koulakio@cc.uoi.gr).
